About Laurel Edinburgh
Before you review my professional credentials below, let me take a moment to tell you a little bit about myself. I love to take long walks with my dog, Bailey. I am an avid quilter and I enjoy reading historical fiction. To keep my life in balance, I make a point of enjoying long aerobic workouts alongside friends. It all gives me the energy to pursue my passion — helping children, teens and young adults thrive.
Professional Background
In 1992, I completed my Bachelors Degree at the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1995 I finished my Masters Degree in pediatric nursing at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). I also earned a post-masters certificate as a Pediatric Mental Health Specialist in 2019. Once I completed my training, I worked at Oakland Children’s Hospital and then Boston Medical Center caring for children and adolescents with chronic illnesses. I moved to the Twin Cities in 1999 and spent the next 20 years working as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Children’s Hospital of Minnesota.
I have worked extensively with children who have experienced abuse. I developed a subspecialty interest in adolescent health and am an expert on how families can foster resiliency for their children and adolescents. I use a collaborative approach in my practice. I work closely with my patients and their parents to assess, diagnose, and treat ADHD, PTSD, chemical dependency and mood disorders.
Additionally, I am trained in the medical management of adolescents and young adults with substance abuse disorders. I provide medication-assisted treatment with Suboxone/Bupinorphine. I believe in establishing a therapeutic alliance with all of my patients. I work with each family to develop the best evidence-based treatment strategies to meet their identified goals.
